I have two lampshade making workshops coming up in Mandors fabric shop in Glasgow on Sunday 22nd may and Sunday 19th June. Workshops are 2 hours long and cost £35 per person. Fabric can be brought in or bought from Mandors on the day…whichever you prefer!

I am also available for private lampshade workshops, either in your own home with a group of friends or in a community space near you. I cover a large area in Central Scotland and I’m happy to travel :-)

Have a look at my workshop page for a bit more of an insight into previous workshops

Angela is a prolific and highly talented lampshade maker. No wait, Angela is simply, talented! Not only is she a mean lampshade maker but she is an amazing seamstress!  Having learned her sewing skills from her mother, a talented couturier, Angela went on to take over the world of lampshades too!

Traditional lampshade making courses

Learn the craft of traditional lampshade making with Cocoon Home. Over two days you will learn how to make a balloon lined bowed empire shade using traditional hand stitching techniques. Students are taught how to fit the fabric on the straight grain, allowing you to use any pattern you choose. Comprehensive notes and full instructions on how to tackle other types of frames are also covered so you can confidently tackle many other shapes.

If you’re hands are itching for needle and thread and space at home to create is limited, lampshade making is the ideal string to add to your bow.

Traditional lampshade making – London

Suitable for beginners and more advanced crafters.

One or Two-day weekend workshops. 10am – 5pm.

If you aspire to the luxury and elegance of lampshades that ooze class like a dowager, this is the workshop for you. Ian McQueen’s relaxed and friendly style of tuition will have you wishing you had taken to the sewing needle years ago. Ian is a City and Guilds trained craftsman who makes elegant traditionally built fine lampshades for interior designers and high end shops. Some are sophisticated – lined with silk so light glows through, some are dramatic statements bejewelled with vintage  adornments. All are hand stitched – not glued – so that they retain their shape and structure to give years of pleasure.
